What is an H4D problem statement?

 

What we look for in a problem statement


To apply you will need to complete the online application and submit a project proposal. Proposals should be written as briefs and should not exceed one page of content and one page of contacts.

 

Information to include


  • Problem Title

  • Sponsoring Organization

  • Challenge: a 1 sentence description of the problem, without prescribing a solution.

  • Impact: a to-the-point description of the larger effect of solving this problem.

  • Relevant Context:

    • Basic facts or context required to understand the problem

    • An anecdote of a time this problem occurred

    • An attempt to solve this problem that failed

    • A relevant current event

  • Potential Beneficiaries: a list of end-users or people who feel the pain of this problem on a regular basis.

  • Team Recommended Skillsets: a list of suggested skillsets that may be helpful to have on the team to have a successful project.

  • Resources: links to any material that may help the students gain context and start the conversation with the sponsor.
